June

Happy June everyone!

June is a happy and sad time for a lot of people. It means that school is letting out, and in grades like 5th, 8th and 12th, it means saying goodbye to your friends as you will be moving onto Middle School, High School or College.

That being said I want to thank the members of my 6th Grade class for a truly memorable year. Especially Aidan, Giacomo, and Oscar, who will be changing schools next year.

People born in June are usually extroverts, and enjoy being around lots of people. The June birthstone is pearl, which symbolizes cheerfulness and inner beauty. I have to disagree though–I believe¬†everyone has both inner and outer beauty, not just people born in June (nothing against people born in June. You’re beautiful tooūüėČ)

You’ll notice this post is colored¬†with the rainbow. This is because June is Pride Month! Yipee!! (*insert¬†a bazillion rainbow flag emojis*).

Have a great month everyone, and I’ll be sure to post more.

March

Happy March everyone!

The March birthstone is aquamarine, a turquoise colored stone. This gemstone was believed to protect sailors, and promise a safe voyage. People born in March are known to be close to nature but have a fiery temper.

They have a unique gift to give the world, and they are loved by their friends. They hardly ever resort to violence, unless their temper gets the best of them.

March is also Women’s History Month, so make sure that you celebrate all the amazing women that are and were, and thank them for all that they do.

Have a great month!

Love,

Kiran

December

Vocab: Decemberites (a.k.a. Dessemperators): People born in December

People born in the month of December have claimed three different gemstones. The most commonly known is likely Zircon. There is also Turquoise and Tanzanite.

The claim of these unique three stones gives Decemberites (or Dessemperators) extreme power. Decemberites can be very convincing, with powerful charm. They also are said to be able to manipulate what impression people have of them because we all know first impressions almost never go well.

BE WARNED: Decemberites are extremely susceptible to jealousy and other negative emotions and will experience great success in things they do not enjoy and things they enjoy.

Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful, while enjoying a feast that was created by the pilgrims hundreds of years ago, eating foods that they didn’t even¬†have.

So, let’s start by being grateful that we get to eat turkey and then go into a minor coma after Thanksgiving because the pilgrims didn’t have that. They had deer. And no pie either!

They also couldn’t turn on the TV and watch the Macys’ Thanksgiving Day Parade because TV didn’t exist. And (big shocker) neither did Macy’s!

And after spending a whole day being thankful for what we have, we completely lose our heads and elbow our way through a long line on Black Friday to buy¬†more things so we can be thankful for¬†those too! I can tell you the pilgrims didn’t have Black Friday in the 1600’s!

But it’s the one time of year where we get an excuse to stuff our faces with–well, stuffing! So enjoy today. Enjoy gorging yourself in turkey, and the mandatory nap afterwards.

This is where I leave you, deep in thought and thoroughly confused.

November

Happy November everyone!

I hope you all had a good Halloween, and brought in plenty of candy!

The birthstone of November is citrine, which is said to be ¬†gift from the sun, and has healing powers. Topaz is most sought-after in it’s orange-ish color, but it also comes in shades of blue, pink and yellow.

November happens to hold the¬†awesome holiday of Thanksgiving, but ironically November is recognized at ‘National Peanut Butter Lovers’ Month’. Luckily, it¬†also¬†happens to be ‘Sweet Potato Awareness Month’. I’m sure November is also¬†hundreds of other things, because every day and month likely holds some strange holiday (example: my sister’s birthday–February 9th –is extraterrestrial culture month!).

Here is a link to a post I wrote about the strange habit of making very day a holiday in some way, shape or form.

July

Happy July, everyone!

July is a special month for Kiranmathew! One year ago, on July 13th, this blog was created. I remember sitting at the very table I am now, rattling off posts like Choices, Choices, Choices (my first post), Minions! (my second post), My Loveable Dog, Cocoa (my third post), and my first short story published on the blog: The Zookeeper And The Green Banana (my fourth post)

As I was looking through some of the older posts on my blog, I saw one written on July 14th, titled ‘Exciting!’.

Screen Shot 2016-07-01 at 8.34.52 AM

It is so sad to think that next year I will be in Chicago, and I cannot continue to sing with the Boychoir. I will still insist though, that this is not goodbye. This is not goodbye to all my friends, and this is not goodbye to Mr. Johnson, who has run the Minnesota Boychoir for 24 years, and made it a habit to know each boy individually.

Ok, I’m going to stop making myself cry right now.

People born in July are usually introverts, but can give lots of wisdom if you listen closely. They are much smarted than anyone gives them credit for. The July gemstone is the ruby, which symbolizes love, health and wisdom. It is believed that a pure red ruby brings good luck.

Easter

Easter is represented as eggs and baby chicks across the nation, which symbolize rebirth. In the christian religion, Easter marks when Jesus rose after 3 days pf being dead, when he was hung on the cross.

So Easter is a time to do some reflection; find out how you can improve yourself, and fix yourself. It’s basically like making a New Year’s resolution, in springtime.

New Year’s Eve In Downtown Chicago

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

New Year’s Eve in downtown Chicago was fun.

Well, actually, more than fun. It was amazing! First, we walked around to look a Christmas lights, and went to get some popcorn.

Then, we went to the Ghirardelli store and got some chocolate.

Christmas

As I sit and let the smell of toast and eggs waft towards me, I think about Christmas.

I think about popcorn and berries strung on strings, decorating a large pine covered in ornaments, family pictures and miscellaneous items that nobody knows why they are on the Christmas tree.

And I think about all the wonderful presents, from all the wonderful people. And I think about snow, and I look outside and I remember we flew into Florida yesterday, and the only snow is in snow globes, playing famous Christmas carols.

And I remember the wonderful Christmas songs in our ‘Home Alone, in concert‘ production, conducted by the wonderful Sara Hicks.

More About Sara Hicks:
Sarah Hicks, the Minnesota Orchestra‚Äôs principal conductor of Live at Orchestra Hall, has led a broad range of programs since joining the Orchestra as assistant conductor in 2006. During the 2015-16 season she leads the Orchestra in performances with Ben Folds, Rajaton, Pink Martini and Cirque de la Symphonie, among other artists, as well as Inside the Classics concerts, film music and Scandinavian Christmas concerts. In 2011 she toured with British rock icon Sting, leading 31 concerts over two months in venues throughout Europe. She has conducted ‘Home Alone’ in concert with the orchestra and the Minnesota Boychoir, as well as numerous ‘Scandinavian Christmas’ concerts, with the Boychoir, and other guest appearances.

More: minnesotaorchestra.org.

And now I’m scolding myself because I SHOULD be talking about Christmas, but I’m in fact, talking about Sara Hicks and the Minnesota Orchestra.

Christmas is about family, love and the birth of Jesus. (I’m sorry if you’re not religious, you can just stop reading now.)

Anyway, have a very merry Christmas!!!

Love,

~Kiran
