Are Church And State REALLY Separate?

After we got our independence, America (then the 13 Colonies) promised that church would be separate from state, meaning the government could not force you to practice a religion you didn’t want to.

Recently I’ve been noticing things that make me doubt this. Here is an example, in the United States Pledge of Allegiance:

I pledge allegiance, to the flag

of the United States of America

And to the republic, for which it stands,

One nation under God, in divisible,

with liberty and justice for all.

Basically, it is making the assumption that everyone who says The Pledge believes in God, which isn’t true.

Another example, is the Liberty Bell. On it, there is a phrase from the Bible on it.

It’s these little things that make me mad, especially in a country promising freedom of religion. I’m not saying that the government is forcing us to be Christians, but I am saying they are making the assumption that people who don’t believe in God are okay with it.
